Brief Introduction of Mtwara Port 

 The Port is natural basin  

 Port rated capacity is 1,000,000tons per annum 

 The Port have two Berths, Old and New Berth 

 Old Berth length 385m; Depth more than 9.8m (CD) 

 New Berth length 300m, Depth more than 13m (CD) 

 The Old Berth can accommodate vessel with up to 50,000DWT 

 The New Berth can accommodate vessel with up to 65,000DWT 

 “Channel“ Depth 20m, Width 250m 

 Allowable Ship’s length 230m 

 Existing Port Area 70Ha 

 There are no tidal restrictions for vessels entering and leaving the  Port.  

 The Port have paved conventional yards with total area of  125,000m2 

 Two sheds; Shed number 3, and Zambia shed with 12,700m2 total  floor areas.  

 Inner anchorage that can accommodate 6 vessels 

 One dock yard area for marine equipment maintenance
